In the past, getting a dental crown usually meant a long wait. You would come in for one appointment to get numb and have goopy impressions taken. Then you would wear a temporary crown for a week or two while a lab made the permanent one. Finally, you would come back for a second visit to have it bonded on. That process worked. But we have a better way now.
At TotallySmiles, same-day crowns are available with CEREC technology to get the job done in a single visit. From start to finish, you could walk in with a damaged tooth and walk out with a fully restored smile, usually in about an hour or two.
Step One: A Gentle Digital Scan (No Goop)
We start by taking a detailed look at your tooth. Instead of those old trays of putty that can make you gag, we use the iTero digital scanner. This small wand moves gently around your tooth and captures a perfect 3D image on our screen.
You can watch as it happens. It is quick, comfortable, and far more accurate than traditional impressions. Plus, no one has to fight the urge to choke on dental putty.
Step Two: Designing Your Crown Right in Front of You
Once we have the digital image, we use special software to design your new crown. We shape it to match your bite and blend with the teeth around it. The software lets us see exactly how the crown will fit before we ever make it.
Our team has done this hundreds of times. We know how to get the fit just right so your crown feels natural from the moment it goes on.
Step Three: Milling Your Crown In-House
After the design is finished, we send the file to our in-office milling machine. This device carves your crown from a single block of high-quality ceramic. The ceramic is strong, natural looking, and built to handle years of chewing and grinding.
You don’t have to wait days or weeks. The machine usually finishes in about 15 to 20 minutes. While it works, you can simply relax in the chair or catch up on your phone.
Step Four: Bonding Your New Crown
When the crown is ready, we check the fit one more time. We make small adjustments if needed. Then we bond it securely onto your tooth. That is it. You are done.
No temporary crown. No second appointment. No wondering if the lab got the shade right.
