Benefits of Invisalign
Many patients love Invisalign because it is considered a discreet alternative to traditional braces. Often, patients avoid straightening their smiles because they want to avoid the lifestyle alterations that are required using traditional braces.
With Invisalign, you do not have to worry about the dietary restrictions or lifestyle alterations associated with traditional orthodontia. Instead, you get to enjoy the following benefits while undergoing treatment:
- Removability – Unlike traditional metal braces, which are firmly secured to your dental structures throughout the entire duration of your treatment, Invisalign aligners can be removed throughout the day. If you wear your aligners for an average of 20-22 hours a day, you will still achieve the same teeth-straightening results. You don’t have to eliminate any foods from your diet.
- Easy To Clean – Patients have struggled in the past to maintain their best oral hygiene while undergoing orthodontic treatment. This is because it can be difficult to adjust to brushing and flossing around the metal brackets and wires that make up traditional braces. With Invisalign, patients do not have to worry about this. Because the aligners are removable, you can take them out when you eat, drink, or brush your teeth.
- Discreet Treatment – No one has to know that your smile is a work in progress! With Invisalign, the clear, plastic aligners are see-through, allowing you to maintain your current smile aesthetics while undergoing treatment. Unless you remove your aligners in front of someone, they should not be able to tell that you are wearing your aligners.
Invisalign: What to Expect
Invisalign treatment starts with a consultation at our office. You’ll need impressions for the Invisalign trays to be perfectly crafted for your teeth. At our office, we offer advanced technology to make this process more comfortable for you.
We do impressions digitally, with the iTero digital scanner. We get a detailed scan of your mouth so that the Invisalign aligners can be made custom to fit your smile perfectly. Once your aligners are made, we’ll give you the details of your treatment.
Patients wear aligners for around 22 hours each day, taking them out to eat and perform their oral healthcare routine. About every two weeks, you’ll trade in your aligners for the next set in your rotation. Each set is slightly different because they slowly move your teeth into place for a straighter smile. Treatment usually is around 12-18 months but varies on a case-by-case basis.

Invisalign FAQs
Can I eat or drink with Invisalign?
When your aligners are in, don’t consume anything but water. Darker foods and drinks can stain the aligners. If you’re trying to chew and bite food, it can damage the clear aligners. Food scratches them and not only can it damage them, but it can make them more visible on your teeth when you’re wearing the aligners.
Does Invisalign treatment hurt?
No, treatment with Invisalign shouldn’t hurt. You will have some soreness and discomfort for the first few days after changing the aligners. It’ll feel a bit tight as well as your teeth adjust to the new positioning. If you experience severe pain, call us immediately, as this isn’t normal with Invisalign.
What happens if I skip days with Invisalign?
If you’re skipping days during treatment, the overall treatment is going to take longer. You have to dedicate yourself to your treatment with Invisalign. This is why it isn’t the best treatment option if you aren’t responsible or are someone particularly forgetful.
Can I speed up my Invisalign treatment?
No, you should never try to speed up your Invisalign treatment. Just because you stop feeling the soreness and tightness from a new set of aligners doesn’t mean that your teeth are settled. Trying to push your teeth to straighten faster doesn’t give the rest of your mouth time to adjust to the new position. You risk teeth that are loose and could fall out.
Does Invisalign give you a lisp?
You may notice a slight lisp when you first start Invisalign treatment. Usually it’s very slight, and you may be the only one that notices it. The lisp goes away within a few weeks, as your mouth adjusts to having the aligners in there. Some people may only have the lisp for a few hours!
Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?
To start, Invisalign treats mild to moderate orthodontic concerns. Invisalign can’t take care of more severe orthodontic issues. You also have to be responsible, as the treatment depends on you following specific directions or else you won’t get the results you’re looking for. You should have good overall oral health, too.
