Why Choose TotallySmiles for Invisalign?
Dr. Steven Anolik has been caring for Gaithersburg smiles since 1973 and has been voted one of “America’s Top Dentists.” Dr. Corey Anolik joined his father in 2007 after completing his dental degree at the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery and a hospital residency at Albert Einstein Medical Center. Together, they bring over 50 years of combined experience.
- FAGD Credential. Dr. Corey Anolik earned his Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry in 2013. Less than 6% of general dentists achieve this honor, which requires over 500 hours of continuing education and passing a rigorous exam. This advanced training means your Invisalign treatment is planned with a depth of expertise that few providers can match.
- Platinum Invisalign Provider. TotallySmiles is a Platinum Invisalign Provider, which is the highest level of experience and expertise. Dr. Corey is also President of the Capitaligners, a local study club dedicated to mastering clear aligner therapy.
- Treat You Like Family. We are a family-owned practice, not a corporate chain. You will never feel rushed or pressured into unnecessary treatment.
- Advanced Technology. We use CEREC same-day crowns, The Wand computerized anesthetic system (virtually painless injections), and iTero digital scanners for comfortable, efficient treatment.

Benefits of Invisalign
Many patients love Invisalign because it is a discreet alternative to traditional braces. Patients often avoid straightening their smiles to avoid the lifestyle changes required by traditional braces.
With Invisalign, you do not have to worry about the dietary restrictions or lifestyle alterations associated with traditional orthodontia. Instead, you get to enjoy the following benefits while undergoing treatment:
- Removability: Unlike traditional braces, which are firmly secured to your teeth, Invisalign aligners can be removed throughout the day. If you wear your aligners for an average of 20-22 hours a day, you will still achieve the same teeth-straightening results. You don’t have to eliminate any foods from your diet.
- Easy to Clean: Patients have struggled in the past to maintain optimal oral hygiene during orthodontic treatment because it can be difficult to brush and floss around metal brackets and wires. With Invisalign, patients do not have to worry about this. Because the aligners are removable, you can take them out when you eat, drink, or brush your teeth.
- Discreet Treatment: No one has to know that your smile is a work in progress! Invisalign aligners are clear and see-through, allowing you to maintain your current smile aesthetics while undergoing treatment. Unless you remove your aligners in front of someone, they should not be able to tell you are wearing them.
- Comfort: Made from smooth plastic, Invisalign aligners are more comfortable than metal braces, which can irritate your cheeks and gums.
The Invisalign Procedure
Invisalign treatment starts with a consultation at our office. You’ll need impressions of your teeth for the Invisalign trays to be perfectly crafted. At our office, we offer advanced technology to make this process more comfortable for you. We take digital impressions with the iTero scanner. It captures a detailed scan of your mouth so the Invisalign aligners can be custom-made to fit your smile perfectly.
Once your aligners are made, we’ll give you the details of your treatment. Patients wear aligners for around 22 hours each day, taking them out to eat and perform their oral healthcare routine. About every two weeks, you’ll trade in your aligners for the next set in your rotation. Each set is slightly different because they slowly move your teeth into place for a straighter smile. Treatment usually is around 12-18 months but varies on a case-by-case basis.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I eat or drink with Invisalign?
When your aligners are in, don’t consume anything but water. Darker foods and drinks can stain the aligners. Chewing or biting food can damage clear aligners. Food scratches them, and not only can it damage them, but it can also make them more visible on your teeth when you’re wearing the aligners. To learn more about how to care for your aligners, see Invisalign Clear Aligner Care.
Does Invisalign treatment hurt?
No, Invisalign treatment shouldn’t hurt. You may experience some soreness and discomfort for the first few days after changing your aligners. It’ll feel a bit tight as your teeth adjust to the new positioning. If you experience severe pain, call us immediately, as this isn’t normal with Invisalign.
What happens if I skip days with Invisalign?
If you skip days during treatment, the overall treatment will take longer. You have to commit to your Invisalign treatment. This is why it isn’t the best treatment option if you aren’t responsible or are someone particularly forgetful.
Can I speed up my Invisalign treatment?
No, you should never try to speed up your Invisalign treatment. Just because you stop feeling the soreness and tightness from a new set of aligners doesn’t mean that your teeth are settled. Trying to push your teeth into straighter positions doesn’t give the rest of your mouth time to adjust to the new positions. You risk losing teeth that could fall out.
Does Invisalign give you a lisp?
You may notice a slight lisp when you first start Invisalign treatment. Usually, it’s very slight, and you may be the only one who notices it. The lisp goes away within a few weeks as your mouth adjusts to the aligners. Some people may only have the lisp for a few hours!
Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?
To start, Invisalign treats mild to moderate orthodontic concerns. Invisalign can’t address more severe orthodontic issues. You also have to be responsible, as the treatment depends on you following specific directions. Otherwise, you won’t get the results you’re looking for. You should have good overall oral health, too.
